freenect software package provides library for accessing Kinect USB camera -- meta package, you can install in your Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install freenect
freenect is installed in your system.
Make ensure the freenect package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep freenect *
You will get with freenect package name, version, architecture and description in a table
